frequently asked questions

What are the best locations for photos in Kansas City?

The best locations for photos in Kansas City are literally all over the KC Metro area! Peep a few of my very faves in this blog post!

What does “storytelling photographer” mean?

The term “storytelling photographer” refers to a photographer whose photos are more documentary and journalistic in nature. Think little to no posing, very few “look at the camera and say cheese” type photos. Instead, storytelling photographers focus on emotion, composition and truly telling a story with each image and body of images.

How much do your sessions cost?

Session fees range from $375 to $675, depending on the type of session booked. Click here to read find more specific information about session fees.

What is included in my session fee?

Session fees cover my time and talent in preparing for, taking and editing your images, as well as equipment costs, insurance, taxes, studio costs, payment for my assistants, continued education and upkeep for all equipment, your pre-session planning appointment, your online photo gallery, and the fully edited digital files of the contracted number of images.

What is not included in my session fee?

Your session fee does not include any print products or extensive editing beyond white balance, color correction and density adjustments.

If the location you have selected requires a photography fee, please note this is also not included in your session fee.

Where will my photo session take place?

Photo sessions can be booked for in your home, at an outdoor location we choose together or in studio.

They could take place on your high school football field, at a creek, in a field with rolling hills, or even down in Kansas City's happening Crossroads District. The possibilities are endless!

How do I book my session?

Say hello right now and let me know what you’re after!

Upon receipt of your request, I will send you an email to connect and get your phone number. I connect with all clients by phone or in person for coffee before booking to make sure we are a good fit and that I have answered all of your questions. Once we have that conversation, I will gather your address and send your quote, contract and invoice via email.

Upon receipt of your signed contract and retainer fee payment, your session will be booked!

When do I pay for my photo session?

You will pay the retainer fee of 50% of your total balance at the time of booking your session, in order to reserve your date.

Because other paying work is turned down in order to hold your spot, retainer fees are non-refundable. In the event that a session must be rescheduled, photo session retainer fees may be transferred to a new appointment within three months.

Final payment due dates vary depending upon the type of session - we’ll go over this during our conversation and it will be in your contract.

What happens after I book my session?

Once you have booked your session, we will connect over coffee, Facetime or the phone to discuss your upcoming session.

Together, we will plan outfits and activities, and choose the perfect location for your session. We will talk about where you plan to display your images, the color scheme in your home, and many other important factors.

Following our discussion, you will receive my custom session guide for your family, which will include color palette suggestions, links to inspiration boards, attire guide, advice for hair and makeup and preparing your loved ones for your photo session, and so much more.

What should I wear for my photo session?

You should wear comfortable, breathable clothing that you actually like and that reflects your personality.

Check out my WHAT TO WEAR Pinterest Boards for Couples, Families, Expecting Mamas and High School Seniors, and follow me while you're over there.

Know that I am here to help you every step of the way. Comfort and personality are key to a great photo session, so for starters - DON'T choose to wear something you don't genuinely like. Your discomfort will transfer to your photos, and I promise that nobody wants that. I am happy to weigh in on outfit selection, color schemes, etc.!

Whew, talk about a lot of questions. Almost as many as my four year old asks. kidding. no one asks as many questions as that sweet boy.
