Summer Update: Exciting News!

Hey friends, it’s been a while since I’ve posted—but I'm still here, still photographing, and still creating. I'm thrilled to share some exciting updates with you!

Personal Update: A Children’s Book

It's been a quieter season for me on social media and on my blog here, but behind the scenes, things have been beautifully full. Between wrapping up a busy spring season and beginning work illustrating my first children's book (!!), I've been balancing a lot of creative work lately—and loving every minute of it.

This book means so much to me and is the first in a series of children’s books. I’ve been praying over and working on this for a long time, so to see it truly come to life is such a joy! If you’re interested in updates about my book(s), please head over and sign up for my author newsletter here.

Recent Session Highlight: Paisley

One favorite recent session was with Paisley, a graduating senior whom I photographed downtown, against the Kansas City skyline, and at Line Creek in KC North. I'll never stop being grateful for moments like that—where stories and scenery come together just right. Her vision for ethereal creek photos was fully realized, complete with her gorgeous dress and me, freezing my toes off mid-creek to bring her dream to life!

A Photography Focus Update

I have been a Kansas City Wedding Photographer for over 12 years now. (Um, how?) Over the past few months, I’ve been doing some reflecting, praying, and refining behind the scenes—getting really clear on what lights me up and where I can serve you best. I’ve realized that while I still have a special love for photographing weddings, I’ve made the difficult (but right) decision to reduce the number of weddings I take on each year. If you are getting married and think we’d be a great fit, I’d still love to help you and hear all about your big day—but please be know that because I will only take 12 weddings per year, my availability will drastically decrease. (Read: if you’re interested in wedding photography, reach out ASAP!)

These days, I’m being even more intentional with my “yes" and am pouring my heart into the work I feel most called to do: family photography, senior portraits, intimate weddings and elopements, and increasingly, generational sessions—those meaningful, often emotional sessions that bring grandparents, parents, and kids together in one frame. There’s something sacred about documenting multiple generations in one photo, and I’m so grateful to be leaning into that in a big way.

Summer Office Hours & Mini Sessions

Quick heads up: during the summer, I’ll be responding to emails on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If you reach out on a different day, I’m probably off adventuring with my kids, but I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

And yes, summer, fall and winter mini sessions are back and available for booking right now! These will be short, sweet, and perfect for holiday cards or simply updating your family portraits before the year winds down. Mini sessions are LIVE on my website for booking for the rest of the year and include:

Whether it’s been a few years or just a few months since we last worked together, thank you. It means the world that you trust me to photograph your story. I'm so grateful for you! That’s all for now - catch you soon! In the meantime, we’ll be poolside, fishing and playing tennis as MUCH as humanly possible! Let me know in the comments below - how are you spending your summer?

xo,

Merry
